Our Founder

Rumi Perween

Rumi is a grassroots changemaker from Bihar and the visionary behind Sapnon Ki Pahal. Her initiative focuses on improving access to education and healthcare in rural communities. She has established four learning centers for marginalized children and led a large-scale menstrual health and hygiene (MHH) survey that reached over 1,000 girls and women in Kishanganj.

With 9 years of hands-on experience, Rumi has contributed to various public health and social initiatives, including PMJAY enrollment, TB awareness, COVID-19 vaccination drives, and early marriage research. Her professional journey includes impactful work with Project Potential and the Uninhabited Organization, where she led teams of educators and fellows delivering grassroots interventions.

In recognition of her work, Rumi was named a Women Exemplar 2024 by the CII Foundation and felicitated by the Hon’ble Finance Minister of India. Her efforts have been supported by the Taco Bell Foundation and shaped through fellowships like eArth Kala Manch and Changemakers for Gram Swarajya.

Alankrita Anand

Trustee, SKP

Alankrita is a feminist researcher with over a decade of experience in gender and development. Her expertise lies in the study of early marriage, gender relations, and healthcare, with a special focus on the Seemanchal region of Bihar. She holds a PhD in Sociology and a Master’s degree in Women’s Studies and has worked across academic and development sectors.

Ranjit Poddar

Co-Founder

Ranjit Poddar is one of the most senior and experienced associates of Sapnon Ki Pahal. A businessman by profession, his strong presence and deep-rooted connections within the community serve as a major strength for the organization. With his support, we are able to identify suitable Community Educators, organize community meetings, and secure physical spaces to run learning centers. Drawing from his years of experience, he provides valuable insights into the background of the community and guides us on how to work effectively with them. His guidance and local understanding are invaluable assets to the organization.

Md. Sahil Alam

Co-Founder

Sahil Alam is the Co-Founder of Sapnon Ki Pahal, where he actively supports the organization’s on-ground legal matters, including court visits and coordination with legal professionals. A trained Dental Technician by profession, Sahil also manages his own small business, through which he provides occasional financial support to SKP's grassroots initiatives. His practical approach and dedication make him a valuable pillar in the organization’s operations and growth.

Sadaf Rahmani

Community Educators

Sadaf is a committed Community Educator at Sapnon Ki Pahal and is currently in the final year of her undergraduate studies. This is her first formal professional role, where she leads two learning centers serving children from the marginalized Mushar community. Deeply passionate about education and self-development, Sadaf enjoys exploring new places, learning new skills, and expressing her creativity through art and craft. Alongside her fieldwork, she also plays an active role in SKP’s administrative operations, reflecting her initiative, reliability, and dedication to the organization’s mission.

Noorzabi

Community Educators

Noorzabi serves as a Community Educator at Sapnon Ki Pahal, managing a learning center for children from the Muslim community. Though she had initially stepped away from academics after high school, her involvement with SKP reignited her desire to continue her education. This marks her first professional engagement, and she has embraced it with enthusiasm and purpose. Curious about technology and eager to build new skills, Noorzabi is not only supporting children’s learning but also advancing her own growth—both personally and professionally.

Ruma Begum

Community Educators

Rooma is a passionate Community Educator leading a learning center for children from the Adivasi (Santhali) community. This role is her first professional experience and has become a platform for her to nurture foundational learning in her community. A high school graduate with a strong interest in sports and dance, Rooma’s journey with SKP inspired her to resume her academic studies. She brings cultural insight, creativity, and vibrant energy to her work, making education more engaging and meaningful for the children she mentors.

Anisha Roy

Independent Advisor

Anisha Roy is a passionate social work professional from West Bengal, currently associated with the Azim Premji Foundation. She holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from NIT Durgapur. As an Independent Advisor at SKP, Anisha supports the organization in various capacities—ranging from proposal writing and content development to administrative coordination and volunteer training.

Her experience spans work with organizations like CRY – Child Rights and You, Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS), and Project Potential, where she contributed to initiatives focused on child rights, rural livelihoods, and public health access.

Her approach is grounded in empathy, adaptability, and a deep-rooted commitment to inclusive and sustainable community development.

Saquib Alam

Independent Advisor

Saquib Alam is a seasoned civil engineer and program manager with over 13 years of experience across the construction and development sectors. He began his career as a Summer Fellow with Pratham in 2008 and completed his Diploma in Civil Engineering in 2011. His professional journey includes working with leading firms such as Larsen & Toubro, specializing in quantity surveying and billing engineering across Delhi-NCR.

In 2018, Saquib transitioned into the development sector and currently serves as a Program Manager at Project Potential, where he oversees the eco-friendly development of a 15-acre rural campus using sustainable materials. He also trains and mentors local youth in natural building techniques, promoting both skill-building and environmental sustainability.

At Sapnon Ki Pahal, Saquib contributes his expertise in infrastructure planning, operational systems, legal and compliance oversight, and overall program management. His practical insights and dedicated mentorship have been instrumental in building strong operational foundations for the organization—from asset tracking and waste management to land documentation and campus development.
